Tree Pruning

Tree Pruning

Tree pruning might be necessary for reasons of tree health, tree safety or tree/landscape aesthetics. There are hundreds of tree species in the world and each tree species has its own unique tree pruning needs; there is no 'universal' tree pruning method that will work for every tree species. For example, some tree species may need to have tree branches cut at specific heights in order to ensure tree health, whereas other tree species might have tree branches that need to be completely removed. Tree pruning is the practice of controlling the shape and size of a tree by cutting away its outermost branches (also known as tree limbs) together with the attached leaves (or tree foliage). Tree pruning can be performed for a number of different reasons, including tree health, tree hazard reduction or tree/landscape aesthetics. All tree pruning techniques should aim to balance tree stability with tree safety and tree/landscape aesthetics. However, when tree pruning goes wrong it can lead to serious tree branch failure which poses a threat to tree stability and tree safety. The most common tree pruning mistakes include: failure to reduce tree branch weight (stubbing, topping), leaving one tree branch while removing others (lion-tailing, heading cuts) and tree limb/branch stubs with excessive tree bark thicknesses. The tree pruning process is generally quite technical and requires a medium to high level of tree climbing and tree rigging skills. Mitcham Tree and Garden is well equipped with the necessary tools and expertise to perform tree pruning safely for any tree species.
